Off Theater Struggles to Bring Culture to Rural Poland

The Director General of the Goleniow House of Culture, Zbigniew Lukaszewski believes that off theater productions are not art, but rather a dangerous game played with the emotions of young people; as well as full of vulgarity and generally do not serve any beneficial educational purpose.

The citizens of Goleniow were blessed with some good news...and some bad news. The good news was that they could attend this year's edition of the Bramat Theater Festival. The bad news was that they had to travel 500 kilometers to do so - all the way to Srebrna Góra, in the Suddetenland. It was there that the organizers of the theatrical festival, Daniel Jacewicz and his Brama Theater, found organizers willing to host them - something they did not find in Goleniów itself. The mayor of the Stoszowice Village, of which Srebrna Góra is a part, recently abolished the local House of Culture, believing that it was ineffective; since it only hosted ping-pong tournaments and similar events which did not justify the building's maintainence costs.
