Dansescenen in DANSEhallerne seeking theatre director (executive/artistic)Dansescenen is Copenhagen's contemporary dance theatre. Danish choreographers, international troupes and performances for children and teens all show here. Dansescenen is partially funded by the municipality of Copenhagen and is part of DANSEhallerne - the largest centre for contemporary dance in northern Europe - in Carlsbergs disused mineral water bottling plant, Tap E, in the new and lively cultural area of Carlsberg. We are looking for a visionary and dynamic director who spans both the artistic and the executive areas. A director who, together with Dansescenens staff, will contribute to the continued development and positioning of Dansescenen and DANSEhallerne as a powerhouse for contemporary dance in Denmark. The applicant will have the motivation to seek to continually develop and strengthen the profile of contemporary dance in Denmark and to develop DANSEhallerne as a whole in collaboration with DANSEhallernes other partners. The applicant will be goal oriented and an excellent communicator, who strives to be a reckoning force in the public debate on contemporary dance. The applicant will also have the precondition to develop, create and manage a broad spectrum and nuanced audience programme and the experience necessary to position Dansescenen nationally and internationally and develop the theatre to be a solid partner in any collaboration. The applicant will also have a large professional European network and working knowledge of the central festivals in Europe and specific knowledge of present Danish and Nordic contemporary dance. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Artistic and executive responsibility for Dansescenen as a whole. Including repertoire, audience development and financial soundness as well as fulfilling Dansescenens obligations and goals defined by the municipality, other contributors and the board. Management and development of the theatre as a performing arts space. Coordination and developmental collaboration with DANSEhallernes other partners. Overall organisational and financial responsibility for Dansescenen. Personnel management including physical and psychological working environment. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS: University degree or equivalent education preferably in the field of performing arts or a minimum of eight years senior level management experience. Well-documented experience in senior level management in the cultural field, preferably in public funded or foundational institutions. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with, and have responsibility for, personnel and finance. Demonstrated skill and success in strategic planning and grant writing. Well-documented experience in working with political as well as private contributors and contractors. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with the media, to generate sponsors and to cooperate with the business community. Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and generate creative solutions to issues. Fluent in Danish and/or English and the ability to communicate in one or two other non- Nordic languages. Working knowledge of business software and web based communications.
