Gdañsk, Dada's "Factor T" in New York

The Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre is once again moving off to conquer the world's stages. This time with the show called "Factor T", which the audiences in New York will soon be able to see.

«This is not the first time that one of Poland's best dance theatres will be visiting the United States. In 2006, the Dada dancers appeared on stage at New York's La MaMa Theatre with the show entitled "A few brilliant observations (a la Gombrowicz)". They also conducted dance workshops in Philadelphia. It was then that there arose the idea of doing a new production with the participation of American artists - and thus arose "Factor T".

The show was inspired by an essay with the same title by the avant-garde poet, philosopher and composer, Stefan Themerson. The artist presents in it a vision of human existence as a constant struggle between the natural desires written into our lives and the aversion towards the methods which are to lead to their fulfilment. This unceasing conflict in the Dada show takes on the form of a confrontation on the line actor-viewer, creating a discourse on the subject of the condition of the contemporary actor.

In the production of the show there took part a trio of dancers connected with Dada: Katarzyna Chmielewska, Leszek Bzdyl and Rafał Dziemidok, and also the American Bethany Formica. The Japanese designer, Hiroshi Iwazsaki, was responsible for the costumes and elements of the stage design while the music was composed by a musician from the Three Cities, Mikołaj Trzaska. The Polish premiere of "Factor T" took place on 3 March this year in the Old Brewery in Poznań. The Americans could see Dada's show for the first time on 5 September during the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. On 2-4 October, the dancers from the Three Cities will appear once again in the United States. On this occasion, "Factor T" will be performed in New York's St Mark's Church within the framework of the Danspace international project.»
