A theatrical SPA

"The Wierszalin Theatre from Supraśl near Białystok was for almost the last twenty years the theatrical pride of Podlasie. 'Was' - because today it has to share its place on the podium with the young Białystok artists associated with the Doomsday Company and the DZRT Action," writes Beata Kalinowska in the student monthly, KOMA.

A few years ago, there were formed in Białystok two independent theatrical associations with characteristic names: the Doomsday Company and the DZRT Action. It quickly transpired that in order to achieve success you do not need a mountain of money and the best prime-time slots on commercial television. It was enough to have a few talented students of the Puppet Arts Faculty of the Theatrical Academy in Białystok (among others, Dagmara Sowa, Paweł Chomczyk, Karol Smaczny and Marcin Bartnikowski). It was enough to have an idea and a youthful enthusiasm for work. It was not an obstacle that they had financial problems and no place in which they could rehearse. In order to sort out the formalities more easily, the actors and the directors joined forces and created the SPA [Stowarzyszenie Promocji Artystycznej - Artistic Promotion Society].
