50th anniversary of the Bim-Bom Theater

Today, in the 'Kwadrat' Students club, the BIM-BOM theater will celebrate its' 50th anniversary. 30 people are expected to attend the event. Over 80 students have been a part of the theater within the last three years.

The pre-premiere of the famous group of students (composed of students from the Higher State School of Art, the Gdańsk politechnic institute and a few future doctors), called "Ahaaa" took place in the 'Miniatura' Theater in May, 1995, when Andrzej Cybulski, in charge of culture at the Polish Students Union in the Gdańsk Politechnical institute, announcd that he is putting together a student group of satirists, and awaits volunteers. Zbigniew Cybulski, an actor delegated by the 'Wybrzeże' Theater to the position of cultural instructor, was at the meeting. He assigned homework to the others people in attendance - to present something from the life of the politechnic school...without using words. And things have remained that way ever since. While the Warsaw Students Satire Theater fought the system with harsh words, the BIM-BOM theater used symbols and delicate allusions that were nonetheless always clear to a sensitive public.
